Once upon a time a man

Today I want to tell you an episode that happened in real life, which may seem like a sad story but in fact it is not. In my time when I was a child as you are now, all stories began like this, once upon a time there was a man, once upon a boy, once upon a time there was an elephant, and so on. And today I want to tell you this story as I listened to my father and your grandfather, telling his stories which were always very funny. You did not know him, but one day you will want to know more about him, and you will have the notion that you do not have to live with people to recognize how much they can mark our existence. One day I will tell you more about him, because this of having two grandfathers is part of everyone's story... but let me tell you the story.
Once upon a time there was a man who worked away from home where his family was. On that day he would return home after three weeks of work. It was father's day and he asked his boss to let him leave a little early so that he could be with his children on that day. The boss understood how important it would be to be with the children that day, and how important it would be for the children to be able to see the father.
He left happy and determined to get home before nightfall, because he had to drive seven hours without stopping to get home. He always came very happy to return to be with his children and when it was already nightfall he arrived home. When the children saw him, they ran to him and the three hugged each other very happily and played, jumped and smiled.
It was the father's day but the children did not know because no one had informed them about it. They were about two and four years old and still did not know for themselves what these dates meant.
The father saw a postcard on the table, and had the curiosity to read and verify that it was an offer from his children for their grandfather.
He put the postcard in the same place and continued to play with his children.
At one point the little girl said, "Dad, it's so good to be with you, why are you always working so far away?
The father was a little thoughtful and replied,- I don't work very far, I got here quickly because today is the father's day and I especially wanted to be with you this day.
- But Dad, isn't today Grandpa's day - asked the girl.
-No," answered the father, "today is the day of the father, and he asked jokingly, "Don't you have a present for me?
-No, Daddy,- replied the girl sadly.
-It's okay, I like you both very much. The two-year-old boy left for a moment and then came back with a postcard in his hand, and addressing his father, he said, "Here, Dad, it's for you.
The father took the postcard he had already read on the table, which was an offer from his children to their grandfather and said, "Thank you, I knew I would get a gift from you, I just didn't know I would be so happy to receive the best gift a father can expect, the one that is true and given with the heart. And they continued to play, happily as always, without the boy realizing the impressive lesson in dignity and affection he gave the adults. Everyone at home witnessed the scene, but only the father and the two children were happy....
And the story ends here, a story that seemed to have a sad ending but that children like you managed to make it happy.
|And at the end the boy asks after hearing the story,- But have the children grown up now?
-Yes," answers the father, "and they are very happy, even though they are still children.
-Are they as happy as we are? -Questions the boy.
Just like the three of us," answers the father.
That's good," said the two children. Let,s go play Daddy.
